A section of roof collapsed at a BJ’s Wholesale Club in Ocean Township, New Jersey, while 27 people were inside, but officials reported no injuries. Two people were partly caught in the collapse and were able to escape safely.
The incident was reported around 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, at the Route 35 store as heavy rain and flooding affected the area. Authorities asked people to avoid the scene and advised drivers to stay away from nearby roads including Route 35, Park Avenue and Deal Road.
The report also describes online footage that appeared to show water entering from above and debris falling as people moved through the store, though that video should be treated as secondary material unless independently verified.
For editors, the key community angle is less about spectacle and more about emergency readiness: how stores, shoppers and local agencies respond when severe weather turns an ordinary public space into a hazard within minutes.
