Newcastle United do not want to sell Bruno Guimaraes, and the reported Arsenal interest has not yet become a formal approach, according to the BBC. For now, this remains a transfer-watch story rather than a confirmed negotiation.
Guimaraes has become central to Newcastle since arriving from Lyon in January 2022 for a reported £35m. The club have since reached the Champions League twice in three seasons after his arrival and won the 2025 EFL Cup, but recent exits involving Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon have added pressure around whether Newcastle can keep their leading players.
The midfielder’s value to the side is not only symbolic. The BBC cites him as Newcastle’s captain, player of the year, and top Premier League scorer in their most recent domestic campaign with nine goals, while also noting that Newcastle failed to win the 12 league matches he missed between August 2022 and February 2026.
The bigger question is whether Newcastle can show enough progress to persuade Guimaraes that the project is still moving upward. With infrastructure decisions still unresolved and rival clubs able to operate with greater financial strength, this story is likely to remain sensitive until there is either a firm bid, a new contract signal, or a clear public stance from the player.
