Burns takes Open lead as Fleetwood faces five-shot final-round chase

Sam Burns will start the final round of the Open Championship as the leader at 10 under par. Ryan Fox and Kim Si-woo are his nearest challengers, two shots behind, while Tommy Fleetwood sits five back after a third-round 69.

Fleetwood’s round kept him in contention for much of Saturday, but late bogeys left him with a difficult Sunday task at Royal Birkdale. The local support remains a major storyline, with Fleetwood still chasing a first major title close to where he grew up.

Burns strengthened his position with a 65 following his second-round 62, a two-round stretch reported as the lowest total across any two rounds in men’s major history. His run has added another layer to a leaderboard that also includes Bryson DeChambeau and Ludvig Aberg at six under.

The final round looks unusually open: DeChambeau is four shots off the lead and is reported as the only player inside the top 10 with a previous major win. Burns has the advantage, but with several contenders within range, Sunday could still turn on a few decisive holes.
