Flavio Cobolli is into the Wimbledon quarter-finals after beating Alex de Minaur 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on Court One. The ninth seed now awaits either Arthur Fery or Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the semi-finals.
The result continues a strong Grand Slam season for Cobolli, who is reported to have reached the French Open final in June. His grass-court preparation had been limited, with only one singles match before Wimbledon, a straight-sets defeat by Frances Tiafoe.
Cobolli’s extended run also created an unusual logistical issue: he needed new accommodation in Wimbledon after going deeper into the tournament. According to the report, his grandfather helped arrange a solution, with an Italian family offering a house for at least part of the stay.
The match was also played in demanding conditions, with temperatures around 31°C and two pauses linked to medical incidents in the crowd. Beyond the scoreline, Cobolli’s calm performance and quick adaptation to grass are now central talking points as he moves into the last eight.
