Dimitrov turns Wimbledon pain into fourth-round chance after Berrettini thriller

Grigor Dimitrov beat Matteo Berrettini in five sets to reach the Wimbledon fourth round, a year after injury ended his campaign in painful fashion against Jannik Sinner.

Grigor Dimitrov is into the Wimbledon fourth round after defeating Matteo Berrettini 6-3 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-3. The Bulgarian now faces British player Arthur Fery in the last 16.

The result carries extra weight because of what happened to Dimitrov at the All England Club last year. He had been two sets up against Jannik Sinner before a right pectoral injury forced him to retire, leaving him with an unresolved sense of what might have been.

Against Berrettini, Dimitrov again saw a strong position become complicated after taking the opening two sets. This time, however, he steadied himself in the decider and kept alive a Wimbledon run that he has framed as a chance to reshape his own story at the tournament.

Elsewhere in the men’s draw, Alexander Zverev beat Marcos Giron in straight sets and will meet Jiri Lehecka next. Alex de Minaur advanced past Zachary Svajda and is set to play Flavio Cobolli, while Taylor Fritz moved on to a fourth-round meeting with Alexander Bublik.
