Oliver Glasner is the new head coach of Nottingham Forest, replacing Vitor Pereira and becoming the club’s fifth head coach in under 12 months. The former Crystal Palace manager arrives with recent trophy success but also steps into a club that has changed direction repeatedly.
Glasner left Palace at the end of last season after a spell that included the FA Cup, the Europa Conference League and a Community Shield win on penalties against Liverpool. His wider record also includes Europa League success with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2021-22, placing him among a small group of coaches to have won both that competition and the Conference League.
Forest’s ownership has framed the appointment around ambition and long-term trust, while Glasner has pointed to the club’s vision and squad potential as reasons for taking the role. The challenge is that recent history at the City Ground suggests patience has been limited: Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Pereira have all had spells in charge since last season began.
Pereira’s tenure ended despite Forest finishing 16th in the Premier League and reaching the Europa League semi-finals, where they were beaten by Aston Villa. With no European football next season, Glasner may have more time on the training ground, but the expectations around him appear unlikely to be modest.
