John Collins has agreed to a three-year, $51 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, according to ESPN’s reporting from Shams Charania. The move would add a proven frontcourt scorer and potential starting power forward to Detroit’s rotation.
For the Pistons, the appeal is fit as much as production. Collins offers vertical spacing as a lob target for Cade Cunningham, while also bringing enough perimeter shooting to avoid crowding the floor.
Collins spent last season with the LA Clippers, averaging 13.6 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 55% from the field and 40% from three-point range. ESPN also noted that nearly 15% of his shot attempts ended in dunks, underlining his value around the rim.
The agreement was reported as being completed with agents Sean Kennedy and Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports Management, but it has not been cited here as an official Pistons announcement. Editors should treat the expected starting role as a reported team-plan detail rather than a confirmed lineup decision.
