Canada’s World Cup run ended in the last 16 with a 3-0 defeat to Morocco, despite Jesse Marsch insisting his side had large spells of control and deserved more from the match.
Marsch’s post-match message focused on pride and standards. He pointed to Canada’s first-half pressure and challenged the squad to make that level of play part of a wider national identity, rather than treating it as a one-off tournament peak.
Morocco’s Mohamed Ouahbi rejected Marsch’s view of the game, noting the final score while still acknowledging Canada’s intensity. According to the report, Morocco adjusted by looking to play beyond Canada’s press, and Azzedine Ounahi’s goal early in the second half shifted the match decisively.
Canada were also without Alphonso Davies, who was held out because of hamstring discomfort even though a scan did not show an injury. Marsch also highlighted an avoidable foul before the opener and a poor giveaway before the second goal as key moments in a performance he otherwise defended.
