Kylian Mbappe won the 2026 World Cup Golden Boot after ending the tournament on 10 goals. Lionel Messi finished second with eight, leaving Mbappe two clear at the top of the scoring chart.
The decisive swing came after Mbappe scored twice in France's 6-4 third-place play-off defeat to England. Messi then did not add to his total as Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain in the final.
The award adds another major World Cup milestone to Mbappe's record. He also won the Golden Boot in 2022 and is now listed as the competition's all-time leading scorer with 22 goals, having moved beyond Miroslav Klose's previous benchmark during the tournament.
The scoring race had notable depth beyond the top two: Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham each finished with seven goals, while Harry Kane scored six. Mbappe's 10-goal tournament also placed him among the small group of players to reach double figures at a single World Cup, alongside Just Fontaine, Gerd Muller and Sandor Kocsis.
