McDonald’s customers in Japan reportedly can no longer make certain food and drink customization requests after new ordering rules took effect on July 1. The report is based on translated notices seen at restaurant locations, not a corporate announcement.
The notices reportedly say requests for changing the amount of some burger ingredients, such as sauce, onions and pickles, are no longer accepted. They also list examples involving fries, drinks and Soft Twist service, including requests for extra or reduced salt, less ice, or serving Soft Twist in a cup rather than a cone.
Some simpler removal requests appear to remain available, according to the same notices. Examples cited include burgers without sauce or pickles, fries without salt and drinks without ice.
The main editorial caution is scope: it remains unclear whether this is a nationwide McDonald’s Japan policy or a rule being applied only at some locations. Dexerto also notes that McDonald’s had not posted a matching corporate news release at the time of writing.
