Kristaps Porzingis is set to stay with the Golden State Warriors on a two-year, $40 million contract that includes a player option for the second season. ESPN reported the agreement via agent Jeff Schwartz, with the deal keeping Porzingis tied to Golden State through 2027-28 if exercised.
The move extends Porzingis’ current contract before he reached open market free agency. Golden State had acquired him from Atlanta at February’s trade deadline in a deal involving Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield.
On the court, Porzingis gave the Warriors a productive late-season stretch, averaging 16.1 points in 23.7 minutes over 15 games for the team. His value is clear as a frontcourt player who can protect the rim and stretch defenses, but recent availability remains an important question after limited game totals across the past two seasons.
The contract also affects Golden State’s wider offseason planning. ESPN reported that the signing makes the team’s path to maximum spending flexibility more complicated, while future moves involving Draymond Green, LeBron James and other free agents remain unresolved and should be treated as developing rather than settled.
