Rangers and Celtic have both been charged by the Scottish FA after disorder followed their Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox. The complaints relate to alleged breaches of rule 37, covering matchday order, security and unacceptable conduct.

The action follows the publication of an independent review into the fixture, which Celtic won on penalties. After the decisive spot-kick, some visiting supporters entered the pitch, while more than 100 fans from the Rangers end moved towards them and fireworks were reportedly exchanged.

The incidents led to at least 37 arrests, with police officers and stewards also injured. The disciplinary process will now focus on whether each club had adequate measures in place to prevent, identify and respond to supporter misconduct.

Both clubs are due to face hearings on 13 August 2026. For editors and supporters, the key issue is how football authorities balance accountability for clubs with the individual responsibility of fans involved in serious disorder.
