Rhode Island opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when J. Williams finished after an assist from H. Bacharach Capdevila, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. In the 35th minute, Loudoun United’s J. Erlandson was booked for a foul. Rhode Island went into halftime leading 1-0.
After the break, Loudoun United made a double substitution, with A. Ordonez replaced by J. Panayotou and A. Souper replaced by A. Essengue. Rhode Island doubled its lead in the 48th minute when N. Scardina scored off a J. Williams assist to make it 2-0.
Loudoun United responded in the 58th minute, as T. Ulfarsson scored with help from C. Torres to cut the gap to 2-1. A minute later, Loudoun United made more changes, with R. Aman replaced by A. Aboukoura, N. Adnan replaced by J. Erlandson, and L. Piras replaced by C. Torres.
Rhode Island also adjusted in the 61st minute, sending on A. Rodriguez for Leo Afonso and J. Kwizera for N. Fuson. In that same minute, H. Bacharach Capdevila was booked for a foul. At 66 minutes, Rhode Island’s A. Sanchez was replaced by A. Shapiro-Thompson.
Loudoun United’s A. Ordonez was booked in the 67th minute, and Leo Afonso also received a yellow card in the 68th. Rhode Island restored its two-goal cushion in the 71st minute when Leo Afonso scored from a N. Fuson assist to make it 3-1.
Rhode Island made another change in the 75th minute, with N. Scardina replaced by Z. Herivaux and H. Bacharach Capdevila replaced by D. Atkinson. Loudoun United’s B. Akinyode was shown a yellow card in the 77th minute. Late in the match, D. Atkinson scored in the 89th minute after a J. Williams assist to seal the 4-1 result.
Loudoun United struggled to mount a response and finished with a 1-4 defeat.
