Scarlets recorded a £2.1m loss for the 2024-25 season, according to their latest accounts. The figure is smaller than the previous year’s £2.6m deficit, but it still marks a third consecutive season of losses above £2m for the Welsh region.
The accounts show turnover falling to £10.2m from £11.3m, with lower income from matchday revenue, sponsorship and Welsh Rugby Union funding. Scarlets also cut outgoings by around 10%, including a wage bill reduction from £8.24m to £6.94m, while a share issue brought in about £940,000.
Debt remains a major issue, with total liabilities still above £10m. The club says it owes about £4.8m to the WRU, including Covid-era loans, and £2.6m to Carmarthenshire county council linked to Parc y Scarlets.
The wider uncertainty around Welsh rugby adds pressure to the numbers. The WRU’s plan to move from four professional teams to three by 2028-29 could have major implications for Scarlets and Ospreys in the west, while Scarlets are still described as being in the final stages of completing the new Professional Rugby Agreement.
