Scarlets have confirmed the signing of New Zealand back-row forward Cullen Grace from the Crusaders. He is expected to join the Welsh region in October, meaning he will not be available for the opening weeks of the 2026-27 United Rugby Championship season.

Grace brings international pedigree, having won one All Blacks cap against Australia in 2020 and also appeared three times for the Maori All Blacks. His arrival adds another option to a Scarlets pack that is being reshaped ahead of the new campaign.

He becomes Scarlets’ seventh incoming signing, joining a recruitment group that includes Corey Domachowski, Harvey Cuckson, Alex Groves, John McKee, George Roberts and Isaac Murray-Macgregor. The club have also seen several departures, while a group including captain Josh Macleod and Gareth Davies have agreed new deals.

The timing of Grace’s move is notable: Scarlets begin their URC season at home to Cardiff on 26 September, before the New Zealander links up following Canterbury’s National Provincial Championship commitments. The key question for the coaching staff will be how quickly he can adapt once he arrives mid-campaign.
