Scotland lost 1-0 to Morocco in Boston, with Ismael Saibari scoring the decisive goal after just over a minute from a Brahim Diaz assist. Steve Clarke’s side failed to record a shot on target, but their late push turned a difficult night into a more encouraging performance than the scoreline alone suggests.
Morocco controlled much of the early contest, with Achraf Hakimi and Diaz among the players causing Scotland problems. Clarke’s plan included using Kieran Tierney ahead of Andy Robertson on the left, but the early concession immediately put Scotland under pressure and forced them to survive long spells without the ball.
The match changed in tone as Scotland stayed within one goal. Jack Hendry and Angus Gunn were noted for important defensive moments, while Clarke later sent on Ben Gannon-Doak, Lyndon Dykes and Ross Stewart in an attempt to chase an equaliser. Scott McTominay went close, Dykes headed over, and Scotland also had penalty appeals involving McTominay and John McGinn waved away.
The result leaves frustration, especially for players visibly affected after full-time, but the performance also offered a contrast with past criticism of Scotland’s caution in major tournament moments. With Brazil next in Miami, Scotland’s challenge is to turn resilience and late urgency into the point or result they may still need.
