Senegal made an early breakthrough in the third round of the 2026 World Cup group stage. In the 4th minute, Habib Diarra finished after an assist from A. Seck to make it 1-0. In the 13th minute, Iraq's R. Sulaka was shown a red card, and the match quickly shifted in numbers. A. Seck was booked in the 18th minute, and Senegal held a 1-0 lead at half-time.
After the break, Senegal kept stretching the scoreline. In the 56th minute, Ismaïla Sarr scored from a L. Camara assist to make it 2-0. Three minutes later, in the 59th minute, P. Gueye converted after an Ismaïla Sarr assist, putting Senegal 3-0 ahead.
P. Gueye struck again in the 71st minute, this time assisted by I. Ndiaye, completing his brace and moving the score to 4-0. Iraq's Amir Al-Ammari was booked in the 75th minute. P. Gueye then received a yellow card in the 81st minute. In the 82nd minute, I. Ndiaye scored from a P. Gueye assist to seal the final 5-0 result. Before stoppage time, M. Doski was also booked in the 90th minute.
On the numbers, Senegal had 69% possession to Iraq's 31%. Expected goals were 3.10 to 0.18. Senegal led shots 28-6, shots on target 12-1, and pass completion 88% to 69%. They also finished with more corners, 12-3; offsides were 1-0; saves were 1-7; and fouls 10-11.
In the previous group match, Senegal lost 2-3 to Norway in the second round on 2026-06-23. Iraq lost 0-3 to France in their second-round match on 2026-06-22.
