Tandy left frustrated as Wales are shut out again by South Africa

Wales lost 43-0 to South Africa in Durban, with Steve Tandy’s side failing to register a point against the Springboks for the second meeting in a row. South Africa scored seven tries and finished as Nations Championship winners.

The result follows Wales’ 73-0 defeat by the same opponents in November, leaving the aggregate across the two games at 116-0. This time, Jasper Wiese, Cobus Reinach, Jesse Kriel, Jaco Williams, Herschel Jantjies, Kurt-Lee Arendse and Paul de Villiers crossed for South Africa.

Tandy acknowledged the scale of the defeat while stressing that he felt his players continued to work hard against the world champions. His main concern was Wales’ inability to turn rare attacking moments into points, especially when pressure and penalties offered openings.

Captain Dewi Lake also pointed to signs of progress compared with the autumn meeting, despite accepting that another blank scoreboard leaves Wales with major issues to address.
