Miyu Yamashita won the Meijer LPGA Classic by defeating Lottie Woad on the first play-off hole after both players finished regulation at 17 under par. Yamashita’s closing 64 turned a five-shot final-round deficit into her third LPGA title.

Woad had looked close to taking the trophy after a dramatic birdie from sand at the 17th moved her ahead. But a short putt at the 18th caught the edge, left her with bogey and sent the contest back to the par-five closing hole.

In the play-off, Yamashita gave herself the better birdie chance with her approach and converted it to complete the comeback. Woad, who shot 68, was left just short of adding a third LPGA win after claiming her second the previous month.

The result also underlined the depth near the top of the leaderboard, with H Wei-ling and Y Liu finishing two shots back at 15 under, and MJ Kang and C Porter next at 14 under. For editors, the main angle is the contrast between Yamashita’s fast start and Woad’s late near-miss rather than a simple collapse narrative.
