AJ Dybantsa will wear No. 4 for the Washington Wizards after arriving as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft. The former BYU standout changes from his college No. 3 because that number is already assigned to Trae Young in Washington.
The 19-year-old enters D.C. with major expectations. ESPN reported that he averaged 25.5 points per game in college and became the first freshman national scoring leader since Young’s Oklahoma season in 2017-18.
For the Wizards, the selection carries franchise weight. It is their first No. 1 pick since John Wall in 2010, and it comes after a prolonged stretch without a 50-win season and only 50 total wins across the past three seasons, according to the source report.
The introduction also framed Dybantsa as more than a scorer. Washington general manager Will Dawkins praised his maturity, while Dybantsa outlined plans to finish his degree online and expand charitable work through a foundation focused on educational opportunities for young people.
