Norway are into the World Cup quarter-finals for the first time after Erling Haaland scored two late goals to eliminate Brazil. Neymar converted a penalty deep in added time, but Brazil could not turn the match back around.
The decisive shift came after Ståle Solbakken changed Norway at half-time, introducing Andreas Schjelderup and Oscar Bobb. Schjelderup became central to the finish, setting up both Haaland goals: first with a delivery for a header, then with a pass that allowed the striker to score low across goal.
Brazil had earlier missed a major opening when a VAR review led referee Ismail Elfath to award a penalty for a foul on Matheus Cunha. Bruno Guimarães took it, but Ørjan Håskjold Nyland saved, leaving Brazil to rue a chance that could have altered the pressure of the tie.
Carlo Ancelotti’s selection included Gabriel Martinelli in central midfield in place of the injured Lucas Paquetá, while Endrick later came on and quickly had a clear opportunity. But Norway’s second-half adjustments and Haaland’s finishing gave Solbakken’s side a landmark result and pushed Brazil into a painful exit.
