LeBron James’ next-team decision remains on his own timetable

LeBron James has not decided where he will play next season, according to his agent Rich Paul. Paul said the timing remains James’ call and that interested teams do not need to make additional pitches while he evaluates his options.

The situation follows James’ reported move into free agency after Paul informed the Los Angeles Lakers that the star would not return for 2026-27. ESPN reports that Golden State, Cleveland, Philadelphia and Miami remain involved, though the strength of that interest is partly based on unnamed sourcing.

Paul also pushed back on the idea that the wait is being staged for attention, framing it instead as a business decision for a player entering a record-setting 24th NBA season. NBA commissioner Adam Silver has publicly indicated he would prefer clarity soon because of schedule planning, but Paul said that does not change the player’s timeline.
