Alice Powell and Abbi Pulling will lead BBC Sport’s Formula 1 radio commentary team for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, forming the broadcaster’s first all-female F1 commentator and co-commentator line-up.
Powell, 33, is stepping into the lead commentary role while regular commentator Harry Benjamin works for Sky F1 at the same event. She brings two decades of racing experience across different categories, adding a driver’s perspective to a high-profile broadcast position.
Pulling, 23, returns as co-commentator and analyst, a role she has already held on previous BBC F1 coverage. Her current racing profile includes a 2024 F1 Academy title, a move into GB3 this season, a recent first GB3 win from pole at Spa-Francorchamps, and work with Nissan as a rookie and simulator driver in Formula E.
Beyond the milestone, the pairing highlights a broader shift in who is trusted to interpret Formula 1 for audiences. For editors and fans, the key question is whether this becomes part of a wider pattern of varied voices in F1 coverage rather than a one-off broadcast moment.
