Sam Prendergast has been named as Ireland’s starting fly-half for Saturday’s Nations Championship opener against Australia in Sydney. His selection comes with Jack Crowley unavailable through injury, while Jamie Osborne moves to the left wing in a reshuffled backline.
Andy Farrell’s team also includes Hugo Keenan at full-back for his first Ireland appearance in 16 months, with Rob Baloucoune selected on the right wing after recovering from an elbow issue. Stuart McCloskey is back from a hamstring problem to partner Garry Ringrose in midfield, while Jamison Gibson-Park joins Prendergast in the half-backs.
The pack reflects several availability challenges. Tom O’Toole starts at loose-head prop, Dan Sheehan captains from hooker, and Tadhg Furlong completes the front row. Cian Prendergast gets another chance at blind-side flanker, with Tadhg Beirne limited to a replacement role.
Australia, coached by former Ireland boss Joe Schmidt, have named Jock Campbell at full-back and a new half-back pairing of Carter Gordon and Ryan Lonergan. Ireland enter the fixture with five straight wins over the Wallabies, but pre-match selections remain subject to late changes before kick-off.
