George Russell won the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, taking his second victory of the 2026 season and reducing Kimi Antonelli's championship lead over him to 40 points. Max Verstappen finished second after recovering from a qualifying crash, while Antonelli completed the podium and remained top of the standings.
The BBC ratings highlighted Russell as the standout performer with 9/10, reflecting his conversion of pole position into victory under difficult conditions. Verstappen received 8.5/10 for his recovery drive, and Antonelli was rated 7.5/10 after a result that still protected his advantage in the title race.
Ferrari's weekend was less convincing in race trim. Lewis Hamilton finished fifth despite the team bringing an upgraded car to Austria, while Charles Leclerc slipped back from a strong grid position and was rated lower in the post-race assessment.
Further down the order, Oscar Piastri took fourth, Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad earned positive reviews for points finishes, and Gabriel Bortoleto led Audi's cars home just outside the points. The race also featured several difficult Sundays, including retirements for Valtteri Bottas, Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz and Lance Stroll, while Fernando Alonso received a five-second pit-lane speeding penalty.
