The Suns have agreed to keep Collin Gillespie on a four-year, $48 million contract and Jordan Goodwin on a three-year, $19 million deal, while CJ McCollum is set to return to the Hawks for one year and $21 million. The reported moves give Phoenix backcourt continuity and allow Atlanta to keep a veteran guard without a long-term commitment.
For Phoenix, Gillespie appears to be the bigger swing. ESPN’s data cited him at 12.7 points per game and 40% from three last season, with especially strong catch-and-shoot production. That skill set matters for a Suns team that still needs reliable ball handling and spacing around Devin Booker.
Goodwin gives the Suns a different profile: less conventional as a point guard, but useful defensively and unusually active on the offensive glass for his size. The roster-building question is financial, because the same report notes Phoenix entered the offseason close enough to the luxury tax and first apron that further moves could become complicated.
Atlanta’s McCollum decision looks more straightforward. A one-year agreement preserves flexibility while keeping a guard who fit well in effective Hawks lineups last season, including combinations with Dyson Daniels, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jalen Johnson and Onyeka Okongwu. The short term limits downside for a veteran entering the later stage of his career.
